Your matter. Your business.

A CLEAR STARTING POINT

Identify the client.
Agree the work.
Arrange the authority.

Working together begins with the right engagement for your role and objective.

An individual consultation, a company mandate and a local-counsel instruction need different information and authority. We organise that starting point around the client, the legal task and the professional responsibilities involved.

A power of attorney supports specified acts where required. It should be coordinated with the scope of the legal engagement, rather than treated as a substitute for agreeing the work.

CHOOSE YOUR STARTING POINT

Individuals. Businesses.
Professional instructions.

INDIVIDUALS & FAMILIES

Advice or representation for your matter.

Begin with the issue you need assessed, the countries involved and any existing file or decision. An initial consultation can identify relevant documents and whether further advice, drafting or representation should be considered.

If authority to act is needed, the lawyer assesses the proposed powers and document requirements before you arrange signing.

BUSINESSES & INVESTORS

A project or a recurring counsel relationship.

Identify the company, transaction or operational need and the person authorised to give instructions. Company formation, contracts, investment work and disputes need their own defined scopes.

A recurring external-counsel arrangement can cover agreed legal tasks, with volume, reporting and additional-work approval confirmed.

LAW FIRMS & LAWYERS

Turkish-law and local-counsel cooperation.

Independent firms and lawyers can discuss a Turkish-law assessment, document work, local representation or coordination. Client identity, authority, conflicts and professional roles must be agreed before substantive work.

A proposed collaboration is assessed for the actual instruction and applicable professional requirements.

THE ENGAGEMENT PROCESS

Start with the question.
Confirm the work.

  1. 01

    Send a focused outline

State your role, the client or company concerned, relevant countries, the subject and any notice, hearing or transaction date. Identify existing lawyers or proceedings. Ask for an agreed sharing method before sending confidential material.

  2. 02

    Confirm the initial assessment

Availability, conflicts, the responsible lawyer, consultation format, language, agreed documents and fee are confirmed. A consultation may be online or by appointment in Istanbul.

  3. 03

    Define any further service

Discuss whether the next work is written advice, document preparation, negotiation, an application, proceedings or recurring counsel. Confirm the deliverables, fees, external costs and required authority.

  4. 04

    Arrange authority where required

The lawyer assesses whether a power of attorney or another authority record is needed for the intended acts. Review the wording and relevant signing route before making an appointment with the issuing provider.

  5. 05

    Confirm instructions and communication

Agree who can give instructions, how records will be shared and how changes or additional work are approved. Do not assume a message, payment enquiry or unsolicited document submission means an urgent action has been accepted.

AUTHORITY FOR AN INDIVIDUAL

A power of attorney should fit
the work you intend to authorise.

The legal engagement and the authority document perform different functions.

The engagement identifies the client, responsible lawyer, scope and fees. A power of attorney records authority for specified acts where needed. An initial consultation does not necessarily require the same authority as court representation, a property transaction or another formal procedure.

Before signing, explain the intended work, where the document will be issued and where it will be used. A broad template may include powers you have not considered or omit wording relevant to the task. The appointed lawyer should assess the proposed authority rather than ask you to rely on a generic document.

Before the document is prepared

Confirm the person granting authority, the appointed representative and the acts to be undertaken. Identify any existing power of attorney, co-owner or related proceeding. Specific transactions and procedural acts may need particular wording or additional records.

Do not assume that authority granted for one matter automatically covers every new case, settlement, transfer or other act. Ask about limits, duration and any powers that need separate consideration.

Signing in Türkiye or abroad

Notarial or consular arrangements, foreign public documents, certification and translation depend on the country, document form and intended use. Confirm the appropriate route with the appointed lawyer and issuing or receiving authority before signing.

Formal signing can require your personal attendance and identity checks even where the legal consultation is online. The website does not issue notarial instruments or apostilles; those official acts are performed by the competent providers or authorities.

Certification is not a substitute for suitable authority. An apostille authenticates specified signature, capacity and seal matters; it does not by itself confirm that the document’s contents or granted powers meet the requirements of the intended transaction.

Provide the completed document for the agreed review before relying on representation. The need for an original, an accepted copy, a translation or further supporting records is assessed for the matter. If an earlier appointment needs to end or the scope needs to change, ask about the appropriate formal steps rather than assume an informal message settles the position.

COMPANY AUTHORITY & CORPORATE COUNSEL

Identify who can instruct
and who can bind the business.

For a company, the first question is which legal entity is the client and who has authority to act for it. Being a shareholder, employee or business contact does not by itself establish authority to sign every document or give every instruction on the company’s behalf.

Company powers of attorney

The lawyer may need current registry records, constitutional documents, signatory evidence, relevant resolutions and the proposed transaction or proceeding. Foreign-company records and signing arrangements need assessment for their intended use in Türkiye.

The appropriate document form, corporate approvals, translation and certification should be checked before execution. The document set depends on the entity, jurisdiction and powers requested; a personal power-of-attorney checklist is not a universal company checklist.

Ongoing external legal counsel

A business can discuss recurring support for agreed contracts, corporate decisions, notices and legal follow-up. The engagement identifies the responsible lawyer, covered areas, expected volume, reporting, fees and the people authorised to request work.

Acquisitions, specialist regulatory projects, litigation, appeals and foreign-law advice are included only where expressly agreed. Experts, official charges and other external costs should be distinguished from the recurring professional fee.

Clarify whether the advice is for the company, an owner, an investor or another participant. Their interests can differ, particularly in a partnership dispute or transaction. Conflicts and client identity must be addressed before documents or instructions are accepted.

LAW FIRMS & INDEPENDENT LAWYERS

Discuss a Turkish-law instruction
with clear professional roles.

We welcome enquiries from independent lawyers and law firms seeking to discuss a specific Turkish-law or local-counsel requirement. Possible instructions include an initial legal assessment, agreed document review, work connected with a transaction or dispute, and coordination of the Turkish part of a cross-border matter.

Define the client and the mandate

Identify the end client, relevant parties, jurisdictions, existing representation and the work requested. Agree who engages the appointed lawyer, who may give instructions and what client authority or consent is required. An introduction alone is not proof that another lawyer can instruct substantive work for the client.

Confidential material should be shared only under an appropriate agreed arrangement after the necessary checks. The work remains subject to availability, capability, conflicts and professional obligations.

Agree delivery and coordination

Confirm the division of Turkish and foreign-law work, deadlines, deliverables, language, reporting, communication with the client and responsibility for any filing or procedural action. Fees, payment responsibility and external costs are agreed before the instruction begins.

A collaboration may be matter-specific. It does not imply a permanent partnership, shared office, employment relationship, exclusivity or an automatic fee-sharing arrangement. Any professional or financial arrangement must comply with applicable requirements.

For an urgent local-counsel enquiry, identify the complete procedural position and actual deadline. Acceptance of a requested step must be expressly confirmed; a website message does not establish that a filing or appearance will be undertaken.

Other professional advisers can introduce a client or discuss coordination, but the client’s instructions, consent and each provider’s role still need to be established. Legal advice is provided by the appointed lawyer; non-lawyer coordination does not replace the professional engagement.

PREPARE THE RELEVANT RECORDS

A focused document set.
A clearer review.

Initial preparation guide — confirm the actual requirements before signing or filing
What to prepareWhy it matters
For every enquiryA short timeline, your role, the countries involved, the question and any approaching dates. Identify the documents available without sending unnecessary sensitive material.
For an individual authority documentIdentity information, the intended act, proposed representative, relevant transaction or case records, and any existing power of attorney. Confirm the actual issuing-provider requirements separately.
For a business instructionEntity identity, relevant corporate and signatory records, proposed work, authorised contact and any decisions supporting the instruction.
For a law-firm instructionEnd-client and party information for conflicts, existing representation, requested Turkish-law work, deadlines, proposed deliverable and client-authority arrangements.
For a dispute or formal procedureComplete notices, decisions, pleadings, notification records and existing lawyer details where relevant. An incomplete summary may not show the actual procedural position.

This is an initial preparation guide, not a complete notarial, consular, company or court filing checklist. The precise requirements depend on the matter and receiving authority. Explain missing records, inconsistent names and foreign-language documents before commissioning translation or certification.

SCOPE, FEES & RELIANCE

Agree what is included.
Know when representation begins.

The consultation fee and any document-review scope are confirmed before the meeting. Written opinions, marked-up drafts, negotiations, official applications and representation are separate services unless expressly included. Ask which deliverable answers your question and how further work will be commissioned.

Professional fees, official charges, notarial or consular costs, translation, certification, courier, experts and other external-provider costs should be distinguished. If the work changes, confirm whether it is covered and obtain agreement to additional work before assuming it will proceed.

Representation depends on an accepted engagement and the instructions, authority and records needed for the agreed act. A power of attorney alone does not establish that every possible service has been commissioned. No court result, permit, repayment, acceptance of a document or completion date is guaranteed.

QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Make the arrangement
understandable.

These answers explain the proposed working relationship. Advice on your own circumstances requires an agreed assessment with the appointed lawyer.

Do I need a power of attorney for an initial consultation?

Not every initial consultation requires the same authority as formal representation. The appointed lawyer confirms what is needed for the agreed assessment and any later act. Explain whether you are enquiring for yourself, a company or another person.

Can I arrange a power of attorney while outside Türkiye?

The possible route depends on your location, the intended powers, the document form and the receiving authority. Discuss the wording and requirements before booking a notarial or consular appointment. Personal attendance and identity checks may still be required.

Is an apostille enough to make every power of attorney acceptable?

No. Certification does not by itself resolve the document’s substantive form, powers, corporate authority or receiving-authority requirements. Those questions must be assessed for the intended use.

What should a company prepare?

Identify the legal entity, authorised signatories, relevant corporate records and proposed work. Resolutions or other authority evidence may need review. Foreign-company documents and formalities are assessed for the intended Turkish use.

Can another law firm instruct you on a Turkish matter?

A proposed local-counsel or Turkish-law instruction can be discussed subject to conflicts, capability, client authority and professional requirements. Agree the client, instructing party, scope, reporting, fees and responsibility for each action before work begins.

Can you work with us as ongoing external counsel?

A recurring engagement can be considered for defined legal needs. Covered areas, volume, authorised contacts, reporting and additional-work approval are agreed. Specialist projects and proceedings are not automatically included.

Will the first meeting include a written report?

Only if a written deliverable is expressly agreed. An oral consultation, document review and written legal opinion have different scopes; explain the questions and intended use before commissioning the work.

Does sending a power of attorney mean my case is accepted?

No. The legal engagement and authority document have different purposes. Confirm the accepted work, fees, required instructions and documents before relying on any procedural or transaction step.
