Reputation & Defamation Defence

For individuals, businesses, professionals and publishers facing a harmful allegation, disputed publication or a claim about what they have said. Start with the exact words, their context and the legal issue—not a promise to remove criticism.

LEGAL ISSUES IN CONTEXT

Whom this service is for

You may be responding to allegations about your personal or professional conduct, managing a disputed statement about a business, or defending a complaint arising from a publication, review or social-media post. The client, the speaker, the subject and the publisher may have different interests; potential conflicts must be checked before accepting instructions.

A reputation matter can involve a civil claim, a criminal allegation or a digital-content issue. The everyday English term “defamation” does not map automatically to one Turkish cause of action. A lawyer should identify the actual allegations and applicable procedure.

LEGAL ISSUES IN CONTEXT

Assessing the publication and preserving context

Prepare the complete publication, URL, publication date, platform, account details and the surrounding conversation. Record what is disputed, why it is said to be inaccurate and which documents bear on it. Avoid relying only on a cropped screenshot. Whether additional formal evidence preservation is appropriate should be considered promptly.

Explain any ongoing correspondence, legal notice, police contact or court deadline. Preserve your own records and discuss the legal implications before publishing a response, deleting material or contacting an opposing party.

Defence and response options

A review may consider whether the material is a factual allegation, an opinion, a complaint or a report of proceedings, and how context, evidence and competing rights affect the position. Unfavourable criticism is not automatically unlawful. Advice should consider privacy, personality rights and freedom of expression alongside the alleged harm.

An agreed engagement can include reviewing a notice or complaint, preparing a response, advising on correction or retraction proposals, assessing a civil claim or defence, and representation in relevant proceedings. Criminal defence may require a separate assessment where an insult or another offence is alleged. No acquittal, compensation or content-removal result is guaranteed.

LEGAL ISSUES IN CONTEXT

Online publications and commercial reputation

For digital material, identify the countries involved, where the publisher is based and the intended remedy. Platform reporting and a legal application are separate routes. Availability of any correction, removal, access restriction or urgent remedy depends on the current law, the content and the competent body; no automatic takedown is promised.

For businesses, consider customer communications, internal approval of statements, confidentiality and the effect of a dispute on trading relationships. This is legal assistance, not a public-relations campaign or a service for suppressing lawful reviews.

Documents, scope and consultation

Provide a concise chronology, the complete material complained of, supporting records, prior correspondence and any official documents or service dates. Identify whether you seek protection from an allegation, wish to defend your own publication or need advice about an existing proceeding.

The appointed lawyer confirms the documents to review, the proposed deliverables, professional fees and any external costs. A consultation does not include unlimited monitoring, correspondence or litigation. Do not send confidential third-party data until the sharing arrangements are confirmed.

Questions before you begin

Can you defend someone accused of defamation?

The proposed service includes assessment of the allegation and possible defence, subject to conflicts, availability and an agreed engagement. Supply the complete statement and any complaint or notice.

Can you remove a negative online review?

A negative review is not automatically unlawful. A lawyer must assess the content, evidence and available remedies. Platform decisions and court outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

Is criminal defence included automatically?

No. A criminal complaint, investigation or trial must be assessed and included expressly in the agreed scope.
